The goal of this project was to weave a canvas to paint on, while adding to its structure complex woven interventions. The traditional plain weave is the simplest, easiest weave to make, but this piece was made on a Jacquard loom to integrate unique shapes using the brocade technique. This work shows the opposition between simple and complex weaves as well as between the organic mark of the hand through painting and the geometric, mechanical work of the loom.
