Reproduction

In this project, I looked at Jacquard weaving as a mean of reproduction. I isolated the formal qualities which characterize Jacquard and make weaving a unique visual language, not just a way of reproducing an original into a copy. I used everyday objects which were documented with a scanner without much aesthetic care. I then used the properties of the Jacquard programming to make these images interesting. The unique qualities of Jacquard weaving include the integration of repeating pattern, a loss in details and information due to low resolution and a limited number of colors.

This project was made possible through financial support from the Maison des métiers d’art de Québec.
