Tropicamour is composed of Jacquard woven compositions, all of which integrate both cheap and flashy materials. With this work I am investigating how different levels of seduction interact together: how hand-woven fabrics appeal because of their intricacy and fineness; how tawdry materials instantly attract the eyes and lastly how we strongly relate to universally known symbols. Each weaving is based around tropicality – how it is represented in popular culture & great myths and how it conveys a feeling of intimacy far from daily life concerns.
